Things I wish I knew before my vasectomy.

Well, I bit the bullet and got snipped. I believe it is the best decision that my wife and I made together, which is the most important thing. We were both on the same page in not wanting any unwanted pregnancies. She’s been on some type of birth control ( except for the few years we were trying to get pregnant) since her teenage years, so to relieve her body of that was an easy decision for me.

The procedure went well. According to the doctor, it went a little longer than expected, but overall, i was back there for about 35 minutes. Even though I knew what I was getting into, here are a few things I wish I knew before getting a vasectomy:

1) Practice Shaving Down Under: I’m not talking a trim, I’m talking smooth as an egg shaving. If you plan on getting a vasectomy, practice my guy!

2) The shots: I can handle shots in the arm, leg, wherever, but you get not one, but 2 shots down there, whew… just know I warned ya! They are very uncomfortable. Very.

3) Scrotum Support and Ice: Trust me, you’re going to need the support AND the ice for the swelling. The swelling size plus gravity will make getting up and walking soooooo uncomfortable so get some support and ice packs. I recommend these:

If you don’t want the jock straps, then try these:

If you don’t want ice packs in your jock straps or boxers, try this:

But it is all worth it. I encourage all men to get a consultation and learn more about a vasectomy. If you think you want to have children later down the line, then a vasectomy may not be for you. But if you and significant other are solid about not having anymore little ones, come on over to the blanks in the clip side.
